Celebrating our 27th Season

THE FREDERIC CHOPIN SOCIETY

Since 1984, the Frederic Chopin Society has brought the power and beauty of classical piano to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. For most of that time, events have been part of an annual series of five Sunday afternoon concerts. For the 2010-11 season, we have added a special free lecture-recital, co-sponsored with Macalester College, on a Friday evening in October.

We take care to select pianists who represent a variety of places, performing styles, and repertoire. Most importantly, we seek artists who are not just masters of the keyboard, but exceptional communicators. With Frederic Chopin as our eponym, we regularly program his works, especially this year of the Chopin Bicentennial, but we are in fact committed to giving audiences a chance to enjoy the full spectrum of composers for the piano.

Concerts for the 2010-2011 season will be held at two different venues. The fall events will take place at the Janet Wallace Fine Center at Macalester College, where our concerts have been held exclusively for almost twenty years. Due to the major renovation of Macalester’s Janet Wallace complex scheduled to begin in January, 2011, the other three concerts will take place at Hamline University’s Sundin Music Hall.

While most aspects of the change in venue are expected to go well, it does mean a reduction (from 381 to 325) in seating capacity. Patrons are strongly advised to purchase season tickets if possible, or to purchase single tickets as soon as they become available, since many of the concerts are expected to sell out. Please note that single tickets for Anton Kuerti (Nov. 14) and Rafal Blechacz (Feb. 6) will not be available for purchase until after the first concert of the season on Oct. 10.

THE PIANO RECITAL

At its best, the solo piano recital is an intimate musical conversation between artist and audience. Many consider it the ‘summa’ of musical expression.

Our 28th season proudly continues the great tradition of the piano recital with exceptional artists who will thrill you, delight you, and move you with their very individual gifts.
